Located in the Cap Bon region, a peninsula jutting out into the Mediterranean Sea, the town of Nabeul never fails to charm its visitors with its crystal-clear waters and white sandy beaches, its medina of narrow alleys and authentic scenery, and its brightly coloured pottery with unique patterns. Not far from Hammamet, it is one of the most important towns along the coast of the Gulf of Hammamet. It is surrounded by orchards and gardens. Thanks to its fine sandy beach and Mediterranean climate, the area is popular with European tourists and is the region’s second most important tourist centre after Hammamet.
Nabeul is also a renowned centre for crafts: you can buy beautiful pottery as well as decorative leather and metal objects. Nabeul ceramics are decorated with traditional local motifs (chawat pottery and motli glazed pottery), which may be complemented by patterns of various origins (European, Ottoman or Andalusian).
Not to mention the market, which is very appealing thanks to its atmosphere: the caravanserai with its fabric merchants, spice sellers laying out their goods on the ground, prickly pears for next to nothing… At this market you can find everything: clothes, food, home decor, leisure items… and you rub shoulders with real life and real Tunisians! Now part of Nabeul’s urban fabric, on the side of the tourist zone, the ancient site of Neapolis was discovered by chance in 1965 during earthworks. The Nabeul Archaeological Museum, opened in 1984, offers a representative picture of Cap Bon in Antiquity, particularly of the peninsula’s Punic and Roman periods. Its various rooms display pieces found at the site of ancient Nabeul, which bore the Greek name Neapolis.
